Favorites - Miscellaneous

Life Flows to the Sea

Life flows to the sea,

A pleasure you have shared with me

Over the rocks and under the tree

Life flows to the sea

Life dances in the sky

A flock of birds soaring high

Calls "hello," and then "goodbye"

Life dances in the sky

Life abounds, everywhere

Past and present, here and there

Forever more, a kind of prayer

Life abounds, everywhere

Life for me, and life for you

A thought to share, a thing to do

A place to go, a passing through

Life for me, and life for you

And when I reach the sea, someday

I hope that by the brook you'll say

The stream flows on, and life's ok

When I reach the sea someday

New Milford Morning Fog

One cool morning, fog rolled down

The tree-cloaked hills, and into town

Along the river, silent, crept

Before the sun arose, and kept

The woodland creatures fast asleep

Til dawn illumined Lover's Leap

A beacon rising through the mist

The first sun of the morning kissed

Winter Moon

Winter night, a country road, an icy drive

Passing silent fields and trees, mile after mile

Hov'ring in the sky above, ancient, and alive

Just above the hills, a moon, and a smile

Beckons me ahead, with a pale soft light

Listening, a patient, caring ear

With me on this cold, lonely night

Far away, but in a heart-sense, near

And when we reach the end, I park

My car, and head inside

The moon stays out to watch the dark

And silent countryside

"Goodbye," I call, without a word,

"Sleep tight, my friend," unsaid

The moon nods "thank you," voice unheard

From its perch far overhead

By morning, when I'm finished there

And headed home, I see

The moon has left and gone somewhere

To wait again for me

Oh smiling moon, oh happy friend

I'll wait to see you, too

'Til nighttime drive brings me again

To spend more time with you!

Cloud People

Cloud people, gathered on the hills, standing close together

Discussing when to march toward town, and change the local weather

They look so soft and gentle, yet should they drift this way

They'll come with thund'rous voices, and incite a stormy day

I've always liked to watch the clouds, against the deep blue sky

And taken comfort, as they churn and boil, rising high

Threat'ning, spreading wide atop an inky flashing base

The blue sky rises higher still, all the way to space!

So it seems with much of life, turbulent and strange

Order that we long for, riven by the winds of change

Somehow, if we could look beyond the storm, we just might find

A calm and tranquil bright blue place, lying close behind

Mountaintop Fortress

A brooding fortress, high atop a granite mountain peak

Veiled behind a grayish trace of forest fire haze

Intruders, all, come to a stop, and conquerors, fall weak

The boastful all fall silent as they stand below and gaze

Upon the walls, of ancient rock, where careful scan reveals

No path by which the curious might scale the icy height

Beneath this looming redoubt, even hardened stoic feels

A loss of hope, with pinnacle still secreted from sight

No portals in the walls, and no keeper of a gate

No hearth with fire blazing. None ever comes to seek

A welcome in this cold dark place, no hope, or hero's fate

A brooding fortress, high atop a granite mountain peak

Winter Inside and Out

The temperature's dropped, and the wind is growing

Branches are snapping, and leaves are blowing

While I sit by the hearth, and quietly gaze

At flickering flames on logs ablaze

Wind shakes forests, and roars through hedges

Whistles through rocks as it sweeps along ledges

While I read a book, held tight in my hands

Imagining ancient faraway lands

Stars twinkle brightly, and moonlight gleams

On snow-covered fields and ice-glazed streams

While I lie in bed, wrapped in blanket and sheet

Savoring warm cozy hands and feet

Then, sometime towards morning, the storm dies down

And a calm dark cold settles all across town

While I sail along, in dream, fast asleep

In layers of fantasy, hidden and deep

Outside, a world recovers from storm

Inside, a world that's quiet and warm

Outside, the dawn of a brisk new day

Inside, a stretch in bed where I lay

Outside and in, the very same world

Two different views, mixed and swirled

A contrast to feel, and a contrast to see

At times like this, how lucky are we!
