I have to say, I'm smitten
With that little Hannah's name...
Whatever direction it's written
It comes out exactly the same!
On sleepless nights, when baby cries
And brain is cloaked with haze
Just like the moon, up in the skies,
Tis just a passing phase...
But you will know, by morning skies
That it was worth your while
When you see love in baby's eyes
And "thank you" in his smile
Two shadows in a picture (fun!), our daughter, and her daughter
As they walked along their drive one day to fetch the family mail
And dancing there, the little one, right where the camera caught her
The shadow dancing, too, as in an old-time fairy-tale
It looks as if she's sitting on the shoulders of her mother
And yet she's clearly out in front, playing on her own
The shadow shows the two as one, with each part of the other
While clearly there's a little girl in sunshine, all alone
Like Isaac Newton, children stand on giants' shoulders, high
When parents read, and walk, and talk, and play with them each day
And shape a future grownup, and that's the reason why
A parent is a giant in the things they do and say
Reaching, little hands embrace
A loving father's gentle face
A child's eyes with gift of touch
Not so often seen as such
Is someone reaching out to play,
Or looking to share love today?
By standards of the world, not much
A little child's gift of touch,
But this may be the richest part
In years ahead, of parent's heart
A nicer sight, in this world? None,
Than knowing two hearts beat as one...
Baby Mae came home today
Where Hanna lives and Hannah plays
Happy, fun big sister games
And practices a brand new name
Baby Mae, baby Mae
Baby Mae came home today
To a cozy home on a winding way,
Where mama reads her book and stays
By the crib, til baby wakes
Baby Mae, baby Mae
Baby Mae came home today
And quiet in a blanket lays
Beneath her daddy's loving gaze
Full of love, he stands amazed
by Baby Mae, baby Mae
Sleep happily, for you are loved,
Let mama kiss your sleepy face
And rock you to a peaceful place
Baby Mae, baby Mae,
Baby Mae, baby Mae...
Last suitcase out, packed to go
In the car, and on the road
A chapter closes, as we send
Our family heading home again
We hold a book, in our hand
Planned adventures, and unplanned
Invested now, and stored away
To savor on a future day
For now, the children have moved on
While pictures capture what is gone
With more, in store, as we await
Another happy, future date
A hope for good, and loving mien
Positioned somewhere in between
What we take, and what we give
The future world where we will live
Where children will grow up and look
Together at this family book
All will say "what fun we had"
Grandparents, children, mom and dad
