A million dandelion seeds
Arrayed upon a quiet grassy knoll
Calm before a late day ocean breeze
Globes tethered to their stems, still whole
A child caught in wonder at it all
Reaches out to touch the silver fluff
Before it flies at nature's windy call
Lifting seeds skyward with a puff
Lucky little one, to see them fly
A dandelion flock a million strong
Magic springtime fun, soaring high
A child's heart, filled with flower song
"It's so special..." in the dark, a little person said
While family strolled in twilight among the fireflies
And scattered flashing Perseids blazed silent, overhead
Nature's phosphorescent show beneath the darkened skies
Is there any higher plane for family to explore?
Brightly twinkling jewelry more precious to behold?
Could this be the best of what our quiet time is for?
A story from a children's book by crickets' chirping told...
Innocence, looking over
Wild places, full of clover
Gentle summer breezes blow,
And warm imaginations grow
This, where children's dreams find birth,
Near fragrant smell of sun-warmed earth
Colors leaping from the ground
Wild flowers, all around
Even older folk like me
See a child's bended knee,
Exploring fields where treasures hide
And feel a flash of hope inside
Stalagmites of sand on a castle wall
Drips from a child's fingers fall
Strewn across the castle's side
Just in time for the change of tide
Sun-warmed skin and sandy knees
Hair tossed by the ocean breeze
A magic seaside place to play
At being princess for a day!
